That was the origin of POW BAR.

Developer of POW BAR

Born in Koshimizu, Hokkaido, Megumi started going mountain climbing with her father from an early age.
After gaining experience in sales and product planning & development at an outdoor equipment manufacturer, she launched her own food brand, BIOLIFE LAB. She is involved in the development of energy bars, catering, and events such as pop-up shops for vegan baked goods. In 2019, She launched The POW BAR cafe, an organic cafe with the same concept as the energy bar brand The POW BAR in Niseko.

I'm a female developer and I love mountain climbing and backcountry skiing, but I don't have much stamina.
One day, while walking in the mountains, I was thinking about food. "In the mountains, you can't eat the things you want to eat like you can in town. But you have to make your body function and move more than you can in everyday life. Is the source of energy that gets your body moving really the right one?"
Through my hobbies of long hikes, backcountry skiing, cycling, etc., I became aware of some questions and problems regarding energy bars. This was the starting point for the development of POW BAR.

In order to replenish the large amount of energy consumed during activities, and to choose foods that do not spoil for mountain climbing, they tend to be high in calories and sugar. However, since I cannot eat raw vegetables, I am lacking in vitamins. Because I am putting my body in a harsher environment than usual, my body is also consuming more minerals and vitamins. Furthermore, I realized that vitamins are consumed in the digestive organs to digest sugar and additives, and I am not using the calories I ingest effectively.

These problems were actually caused by the nutritional and energy foods that I was eating to take in calories.

POW BAR's unique features

If you are doing activities in the cold, such as backcountry skiing, mountaineering in the cold winter, or ice climbing, you probably know that when the temperature approaches below zero, regular energy bars become hard and stiff. POW BAR do not become hard and can be eaten deliciously without losing its flavor.

HISTORY

After leaving her job at an outdoor equipment manufacturer in 2016, Megumi moved to Niseko, Hokkaido, for telemark skiing. She launched the food brand BIOLIFE LAB and developed an energy bar that was satisfying in terms of both ingredients and specifications, having herself and hier fellow athletes try samples.

In 2019, to rebrand POW BAR, they opened a workshop and cafe in Niseko Town. The POW BAR cafe, which offers free, healthy, low-impact food and drinks with the concept of "travel and adventure", has been highly praised by locals and foreign visitors alike.

In 2020, it became popular when major outdoor brands started selling it and it was used as a welcome pack at resort hotels. Tt was also featured in an article in the Hokkaido Newspaper.
